I find cannabis opens a window into my thoughts and emotions and helps me feel what I feel with greater clarity. It also heightens my connection to the world around me. I’m disappointed in the lack of research or discussion in Canada of its healing and spiritual elements, so I’m very happy you’re writing about this!

I love how you put it Darcie! It "opens a window." Sometimes when I use cannabis I have a little emotional outpouring of tears or laughter or both. It’s like I realize the feelings I was trying to avoid.

Very relatable, but sometimes I feel like the pleasure and insights comes at a cost because wherever I use it, it takes some time for me to readjust, and my attention wanes for a day of or two, maybe I'm doing it wrong?

Yes it’s true that it takes time to come back to reality. But that time between your use and time when you have to be back to your usual state of consciousness can be really valuable as an opportunity for integration. Maybe you could use it less frequently, but give yourself more time after. Perhaps you could plan some experiences in nature, at home or with friends that can help you enjoy the state of mind, rather than wishing it would go away, or feeling like it’s getting in your way of your responsibilities. I love movement and reflective writing after 💕 but the process of working out what would help *you* feel good is a big part of the benefit of cannabis integration. Getting to know yourself, and claiming your time for doing that helpful activity can be so transformative.

Thanks for your insight, it all boils down to evaluating one's self and discovering better ways of utilizing the tools nature has given us. Generally, in my life, I think the benefits of cannabis has always outweighed the cost. I just ensure that whenever I decide to use it, I have nothing really tangible on my plate, for example, I can't take it till I'm done with a course I'm taking currently because it'll slow down my progress...

Thank-you for starting this conversation within us and between us Daphne. I have consistently pushed Cannabis away though it has been influential since childhood and I've consumed it. In both cases I have memories of less than desirable experiences. The healing and spiritual side of this opens up a new perspective for me to consider. It's appealing and relatable. I love your reflection about how this changed your life as a parent of a teen. I'm looking forward to exploring further.

Thank you for reading, Lindsay! That means so much to me. I think substances are a bit like dating. Some substances are for a season, some are for a reason, and some are forever. Even though I think cannabis is under-recognized as a spiritual tool, it's not for everyone at every stage of life.

I am grateful to have lived long enough to see the benefits of cannabis recognized and the drug itself legalized in many states here in the U.S. I look forward to federal legalization and, as you state, more research and attention paid to its healing properties.
